Meeting Minutes
Opening
Quorum achieved, meeting opens 8:11pm
Personal Introductions
Everyone introduced her/himself, with names and positions at OCF.
Clarification on GM Voting
wyc and ajani say: GMs can't second motions
GMs can't vote unless it's a tiebreaker
Procedure:
- First ask if all are in favor
- If no, then do a secret ballot
- Count yes, no and abstains
- Votes need 50.1% not counting GM
General Manager (GM) Message
live.berkeley.edu
- jones has signed us up for live.berkeley.edu
- eleen: In the future, our events will be posted on their Live system.
iGive
- Ken has set up iGive for us.
- What is
iGive?
- iGive is a system where people can buy items online, and a percentage of the cost of the item goes to the OCF.
- Same idea as eScrip
- To use it, you have to enter the OCF's identification code (not specified in meeting) when you buy.
- iGive sells through any number of popular retailers (example given was Best Buy).
AC is Fixed
- Circuit breaker has been replaced.
- AC should be capable of being on all the time; if it is off, then someone has turned it off intentionally.
Site Manager (SM) Message
Virtual Hosts Created
- jones has created a number of virtual host accounts for people.
Assisted CalFacts
- jones helped CalFacts with their "totally insane" web project.
Cleaning and Organizing
Cleaning
- jkit:
Things that need to be cleaned:
- Keyboards,
especially those of the Windows machines.
- If everyone could clean one keyboard, it would really help.
- Ideally, one person could take responsibility for maintaining one keyboard.
- Behind the computers and monitors
- The lab in general
- Keyboards,
especially those of the Windows machines.
- If you're in the lab and there's a free computer, take the opportunity to clean.
- Cleaning supplies are located in the bottom left desk drawer.
New location for printer paper
- Printer paper should be accessible to all staff.
- We're moving printer paper out of the server room into one of the file cabinets.
- The key
to the paper cabinet will go in a lockbox
- We're obtaining a lockbox from Barrows.
- Staff will get the combination to this lockbox.
Voting on Potential Purchases
Our Current Budget
We have $5000, including the $1000 ASUC is supposed to (but has yet to) give us.
Paper
We need to buy paper. Estimated cost: approximately $2000
SSL Certificates
- Purpose: to provide authentication from e-mail clients to our server, we need a certificate.
- This
certificate needs to have a signed public key from an SSL
certificate authority.
- The certificate authority is an organization that verifies your identity before selling you a certificate.
- The
certificate authority must have their key built into all browsers
- That is, our provider needs to be reputable enough such that software providers (e.g. Microsoft) have programmed their software (e.g. Outlook) to trust certificates from the given provider.
- jones says that the cost is between $150 and $400.
- jones wants permission for a purchase of no more than $500 (for each cert, see below)
- There is a yearly renewal fee for a certificate.
- akopps:
we need two certificates, one per hostname.
- We need one certificate for our e-mail server, and one certificate for our web server (for webmail, etc.).
- remlluf:
Forthcoming campus policy requires all mail servers to have relaying
disabled and have a certificate of authentication.
- In the distant future, campus will provide SSL certificates, but not any time soon.
- The certificate will help us relieve our open relaying status.
- The Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve spending of up to $1000 to obtain two SSL certificates.
Webcam
- Purpose
- Not for security
- Remlluf: Can we hook it up to be a security device
- Devin: it's possible
- Lets you see how many people are there
- It's cool
- Tradition--since 1999
- It makes Devin and Wayne sad not to have it :(
- Not for security
- Price
- Eugene looked into price two weeks ago: $100-$200
- wyc: USB webcams are a lot cheaper, $20-30
- jones: the kind we want is
cheaper. Cheapter ones are less detachable.
- This is good because they're harder to steal
- jones: It was would be nice to just allocate $ now
- jkit: should the payment money come from ASUC allocated funds or miscellaenous funds?
- Implementation
- We could use a cheap computer or video card to do it
- akopps looked into hooking it up to a Sun but couldn't find the software
- Vote to allocate up to $200
- For: 4
- Against: 2
- Abstain: 1
Robotic arm discussion postponed
Supplies
Eleen: do we have enough supplies?
Cpfeyh: yes.
General User Account
remlluf: Under forthcoming campus policy, general user account is prohibited.
Everyone needs a unique account with password, passwords must be encrypted.
ASUC Satellite OCF Station
- jones: they have tables but no attachment spot for security
- we'd have to drill holes
- they're probably ok with this
- devin asked tayina, no response
- they're probably ok with this
- have building ops drill holes or
use?
- Jones wants to do it himself, not wait for anyone
- jones is going to set up machines
on Sunday afternoon at about 2pm in OCF lab, get them ready to move
- interested staff can come
