Meeting Started at 18:48
administrivia¶
- Mailroom Access update
- rsang: all *Ms currently have mailroom access
- Meeting with Lauren
- rsang: figured out CACSSF and ABSA due dates, etc.
- storce: will contact senate for semesterly presentation
- storce: rats eating our halloween tabling candy in the storage room
- talk to sufmo etc
- rsang: also storage room cleaning friday (tm)!
- (general banter about how to use this storage situation to our advantage)
-
Reviewing BoD notes workflow
- storce: switched from outline to mkdocs/git for notetaking. version control
- jaysa: eventually will integrate bestdocs to main ocf website
- simple = better
- (lukepeters: your notetaker is me)
- bod finishes on time more i think
- convertible skills! onboarding to git (vim? nano? etc.)
- lukepeters: your notes today are powered by VSCODE
- bod agenda ended up being messy before
- prs are more formal, proof of effort basically
- but feel free to ignore everything after i graduate lol
- chamburr: git has a steep learning curve, ditto vim and nano. prevents people from contributing
- i think a more user-friendly setup would help people participate
- jaysa: but git is... ocf basics
- lukepeters: advertisement for OCF DECAL!
- michaelzls: we're keeping plaintext bod notes right?
- jaysa: outline did some crazy weird and annoying markdown export
- plaintext is more accessible
- lukepeters: also helps with longevity and archiving
- chamburr: bod notes are more synchronous though compared to other docs. don't want 20 prs every Wednesday night
- lukepeters: (you can tell me what to type into bod notes :)
- chamburr: there could be more than one person taking notes
- especially as the notetaker has a limited typing speed and multitasking ability
- lukepeters: true
- propose switching to hedgedoc (collaborative online md for duration of bod)
- push to gh once at the end
- easy to use
- especially as the notetaker has a limited typing speed and multitasking ability
- ncostello: either way any edits may need to be made, and people don't want to git pull edit git commit merge git push during every bod
- jaysa and lukepeters: maybe it's good to have a third-party listener, so bod minutes reflect the most important events
- (bunted to future discussion/vote)
-
Retreat Planning (?)
- joiew: i'm happy to do it but idk if it should be internal head responsibility
- rsang: breakout into its own committee? overall consensus is that bod/administrivia can handle it overall. msonmez has been doing it recently anyway.
- msonmez: interest in joining? dates? will send out form to poll if I see enough interest Even. Better. OCF. Retreat! ideas welcome? text me, call me, etc (people start asking for msonmez's phone number)
operations¶
- First week of operation updates :D
-
eariespraud: everything fell apart at noon today. the printers hated the new hires, the rain frowned down upon us, ... things fixed now? but lab has been very busy weird CD player
- michaelzls: helped someone with a CD yesterday. definitely had a lot of dust (figuratively)
- need admin to burn CDs?
- blakeh: last semester sbwilliams managed it somehow.
- lukepeters: setuid script/limited sudo?
- rjz: 'cdrom' group will look into later
-
knivesng: bruh does anyone know how to fix the staplers?? we have 3 down. maybe someone can help fix after bod. cooked staplers relatively low number of stapler inquiries
rebuild¶
- papers occasionally doesn't work 20% of the time, okular doesn't work, last 10% is (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
-
michaelzls: firefox
- lukepeters: ditto
- blakeh: firefox on wayland idk
-
blakeh and jaysa: nix cosmic install ran the installer every login
- jaysa: fixed by config change
overall we should just build our own how we want it
PDF VIEWERS!
okular uses its own print dialog
cosmic might magically fix our problems
leos: can we just use firefox?
- jaysa: doesn't have as many options though
- jaysa: any other changes we should make from current KDE setup while we're at it
- blakeh: unintuitive file manager icon
- jaysa: fixed by config change
overall we should just build our own how we want it
PDF VIEWERS!
okular uses its own print dialog
cosmic might magically fix our problems
leos: can we just use firefox?
-
eariespraud: displaying colour pages etc.
-
jaysa: bestdocs cannot survive on bestdocs.ocf.io how do we integrate it into ocf.b.e don't want to wait for new ocfweb
- storce: hyperlink to bestdocs? separate docs website is pretty common lukepeters: make the UI very different jaysa: 'docs' or 'help'? will change to 'docs'
-
jaysa: anything I should do as SM?
- storce: chamburr solved let's encrypt problems
internal¶
- First GM Meeting Today!!
- Plans for future socials?
- joiew: friday clocktower and storage cleaning
- rsang: tech talks?
- joiew: Yes. But I don't need glasses. (?)

- eaeriespraud: numbers computed. openly one hopes. 8 hours a week for technical opstaff (22.40, same as OM) is within budget for remaining CACSSF
