Frequently Asked Questions

What is the OCF? How do I join?

The OCF, otherwise known as the Open Computing Facility, is the largest(*) student organization on campus (*by membership count). OCF is completely administered and operated by student volunteers ("staff"). About the OCF. We provide access to computing services for students by students the list of which you can find here.

Interested in joining staff? Feel free to attend our meetings, contact us by email or join the Discord!

How do I print?

  1. Create an OCF at ocf.io/join
  2. Log into the desktop with your newly created username and password!
  3. Open your document as a PDF in Firefox or print directly from your application (eg. Google docs, Word, etc)
  4. Click on the print icon and change the printer option depending on what you're looking to print
    single - Single Sided
    double - Double Sided
color-single - Colored Print, Single Sided (note that color double sided printing is not currently available)
  5. Go collect your print!
single and double prints will print at the 3 large printers
color-single will print at the color printer near the supply table

My print isn't printing!

There are multiple reasons as to why a print wouldn't go through.
Before trying anything, check your Berkeley email as an error email may have been sent to it that would outline the issue.
Otherwise,
1. Check how many sides of paper you have left. If your print goes over your daily limit it will not print! (Sides are NOT pages, a double sided print counts as 2 sides)
a. Additionally, you only get 10 sides of color printer per semester, not day.
2. Try printing again, sometimes the printer likes to eat pages.
3. If all else fails, ask a front desk member for help or, click here for a more exhuastive troubleshooting guide.

My Goodnotes export isn't scaled correctly.

Goodnotes uses a different page size than normal US letter. If you attempt to print a Goodnotes PDF created using Export This Page or Export All, it may be incorrect even if you adjust scaling in the print dialogue.

Instead, select Print in the export menu and save the file via your device's print dialogue. Then, send your PDF to one of the desktops and print as normal.

Where is the stapler!?

The stapler is on the supply table! Look up for the sign in the lab that says Supplies and it'll be there alongside the paper cutter, blank sheets of paper, paperclips, manilla folders, and tape! Gluesticks, scissors, highlighers, and additional stationary can be found at the front desk. Additionally, we have binderclips avaliable upon request and chargers for the cost of one Cal-ID per rental.

I can't create an OCF account!

Accounts are typically processed immediately. If your account requires additional approval by staff, it may take a few days (usually less) to be manually approved. If this was the case, you will have been informed during account creation.

Check your email's spam folder or try to reset your password to see if your account has been created. Otherwise, let a front desk staff member know to redirect you to proper resources.

I forgot my username or password.

I have an account. Does it expire? Will it still work?

It should still work. Our current policy is to leave accounts alone after graduation. See account.

My account is disabled. Or, I want to disable or delete my account.

See account.

Where is the lab? What are the hours?

See lab.

I think I left something in the lab, can you tell me if it's there?

Please do not email us about items lost in the lab. The front desk is staffed by paid employees, not by OCF volunteers. If you email us, the front desk staff will not see it. If you've lost something, you should instead stop by in-person and ask the front desk or ask in the OCF Discord.

My group already has a group.berkeley.edu domain. Will I have to migrate to group.studentorg.berkeley.edu?

All student organizations will be transistioned to studentorg.berkeley.edu in the coming months. If you are part of a research lab, faculty, or have a subdomain within a department (e.g. site.eecs.berkeley.edu) you will be exempt from the transition. We will provide more communication in the coming months on how this process will work.
