Quorum for this meeting is 8
Meeting Started at 18:20
administrivia§
- HKN requesting to book lab for Sunday, 11/8 12-3:30pm for EECS Day event for high school students
- lafer: works for opstaff
- Voting to approve this booking. 10 approve, 1 abstain. Motion passed
- rsang: elenah, how easily can we request stripe portal from lauren?
- elenah: I imagine stripe will take a while, can push to get that done whenever
- rsang: can book meeting with lauren this week and will update you about stripe portal
- elenah: basic version of RSO printing should be fairly easily implementable
- rsang: told SUFMO to come into the lab for cleaning ideally Thursday evenings or Sunday, TBD
- michaelzls: can this be regular? scope?
- mop floors, wipe down desks, peripherals, deep clean chairs with a steam cleaner (like last time)
- rsang: still haven't gotten back to me about toner/e-waste
- cleaners > e-wasters
- rsang: lukepeters: can you go to home depot or staples for e-waste...
- lukepeters: sure probably
- car
- one car full
- 12 boxes, etc.
- there are no foxes in the boxes
- rschuetz: or bike to staples? hmm.... nvm it's six bike rides
- lukepeters: remind me about it please
- michaelzls: btw also need to order the approved GPUs
- rsang: just do the thing but ideally instantcard
- rschuetz: can handle the GPUs. Will submit reimbursements in a timely manner.
- the more we wait the more $$$ it costs :(
- finwan: unfortunate reality
operations§
- lafer: elena was saying the ELECTRIC STAPLER will arrive soon
- finwan: field trip after bod to pick up ELECTRIC STAPLER
- elenah: is disappointed to miss the ELECTRIC STAPLER
- everything else is good, other than the staplers
- a lot of people have the issue with the Duo bypass codes
- rsang: unfortunately campus IT issue
- lukepeters: maybe because people have passkeys in iCloud or similar and no other method
- elenah: I could only set up a passkey if I also set up an app
- now I only have a security key. But I recall that I had to get the app initially
- lukepeters: I was able to set up solely a security key
- elenah: weirdly happens in waves
- seems unlikely this is an IP blocking issue since it affects multiple PCs at a time
- rschuetz: iCloud Firefox extension: maybe?
- elenah: message is like "contact your IT admin to get a code"
- michaelzls: I use bitwarden... seems to work on most computers
- elenah: michaelzls and I have used bitwarden passkeys on lab PCs many times and they work great
- elenah: maybe we should contact IT if this is a Duo side issue?
- lukepeters: next time, try getting an IT admin code from https://bpr.calnet.berkeley.edu/account-manager/
- michaelzls: I log into berkeley Duo regularly with a physical security key
- elenah: 99% of people are fine without a key on their own devices, they usually use the app on their phone
- this is a slightly uncommon issue, but with different people
- lukepeters: I suspect it's correlated with what types of devices they have enrolled in Duo
- elenah: TOTP from the duo app does NOT work for these people
- rschuetz: HOTP, not TOTP, but it relies on the number of times you generate a code
- elenah: pretty sure DUo is timed
- lukepeters: also pretty sure it's timed, but it's proprietary to their app
- rsang, lukepeters: we'll try to notice these things and report them at next opstaff meeting
- vqbc: anyone else with access to a car
- michaelzls: yes but far away
- rsang: we'll just try to get rid of fifteen toners...
internal§
- joiew: we decided to first talk with finance about Round1 allocation: $12/person. Sunday, October 25, before Halloween
- accounting for transportation, Round1 cards, etc
- michaelzls: what is a Round1 card?
- joiew, ericgu, lukepeters, rsang: a smartcard that lets you pay with preloaded money
- angelawuuski: isn't the minimum $20? or $10?
- ericgu: let's double check, and see how many people already have cards
- how do we deal with invitations?
- rsang: sadly cannot give $10 to everyone in the OCF (the largest student group on campus)
- finwan, joiew: cap and give excess funds outside of bod
- rsang: no cap, just bod
- ericgu: we should probably not pay a subsidy of 20 per person if it is that high
- *there is discussion of a giant ocf master card and marginal rates*
- joiew: awesome. epic. is hack day unreal because everyone is sick
- TIO (intermission orchestra) concert this weekend, pull up. 8pm. First Congregational Church, Berkeley
- joiew, ericgu: six people for tech talks! working on scheduling
- yk how we're trying to space out socials and hack day? also space out tech talks?
- rsang: likely unnecessary because audience is not going to be too influenced
finance§
- finwan: toner likely arrived on Monday. (yes)
- paper, battery, ELECTRIC STAPLER
- monitors. I mean, tablets. Wacom Intuos S is $40
- michaelzls: support Intuos lukepeters: agree
- get the Intuos medium/small, not the pro
- jingwenyang: yeah don't get the cheap brands
- ok with small wacoms, maybe also get a medium knockoff tablet since wacom will be prohibitively expensive
- michaelzls: refurbished medium or large wacom?
- rschuetz, rsang: just replace pen nibs
- finwan: Plan is to get 2 small, 1 medium
- michaelzls, finwan, lukepeters, rsang: MONITORS. I, michael, decided on specs. IPS for anti burnin, >= 120 Hz, ideally DCIP3, 1440p. Minimum
- dell monitors seem fine. if you want 4K it gets expensive
- finwan: last time 4K was $850.
- steep
- michaelzls; I tihnk there are better 4k monitors available
- elenah: issue with scaling on current 1080p monitors
- rsang: 1440p is... fine.
- michaelzls: 4k is nice but would really want 1440p figure out budget, I have contenders;
- lukepeters: I have a contender that I just told michael abt.
- (basically they just quoted me)
- okay michael did also have an option: Dell S2725QS. Main problem is it's sRGB. $279
- BUT. lukepeters: I have something else.
- colour accuracy, hmmm. (colour monkey is pending)
- lukepeters; not blocking purchases. can calibrate later lukepeters: my option is ASUS XG27UCS. 399. Basically it's michael's option but it's DCIP3 :p
- elenah: still not sure about need for 4K
- michaelzls: most of our 4k monitors are compromised in some way (refresh rate, etc)
- be cool to find something better
- yes we can find something better
- pushed to next week
- rschuetz: graphics card allocation last spring was 9 cards at $799 each. Can we allocate $850 per card as breathing room given inflation?
- Radeon Rx9070xt
- rsang: how many
- rschuetz: 9 cards?
- finwan: we already have 6 out of 9. so just 3 more.
- Voting for 3 cards, total $2550 + tax. 14 approve this measure. 1 abstain, 0 oppose. Motion passed.
decal§
- lukegon: decal went well yesterday with 24 students attending. Most labs are graded and I tihnk carl/erdaifuu is getting IPv4 on VMs for github support. Seems to be going smoothly!
- rsang: voting item for next semester?
- lukegon: uncapping enrollment and offering virtual curricula. still need to hash out plans with carl.
- rsang: in past, people have just chat all lecture when grading was lenient
- lukegon: people seem very focused this semester. I think we can manage
- rsang: sounds good. just need to get logistics sorted. We have a webcam/recorder dating from COVID.
design§
- jingwenyang: TOUHOU club is real
- ask jingwen for discord invite
- check #off-topic
- angelawuuski: want to redraw login screen
- andi's concept: waddles as a bridge troll
- michaelzls: we should also incorporate the text fields into the design
- vqbc: to clarify this is for keycloak SSO
- rsang: go ham, post drafts in discord
rebuild§
- michaelzls: GitHub project board. ocf.io/gh/ocf/issues. Go ham or add stuff when you have ideas
- rsang: any other rebuild comments? no? ending meeting
- people need to go
- michaelzls: (stalling) I mean there's nothing bod-worthy.
- Thanks michaelzls elenah sbwilliams
