administrivia¶
- sbwilliams:
- will try to get XCF (experimental computing facility) google workspace
- xcf ip space, but the eecs deparment is the administrator for that
- want to reallocate
- should preserve their history
- trying to find info from BoD notes on data center, how we can access it
- got approval to have after hours
- removed others from the list, so we can add more in the future
- add documentation
- may or may not be getting billed
- there is a monthly charge for rack usage, if we want to put more servers there
- try and get a grant/fee, as it would be a major expense
- good idea to move to data centers; better uptime, etc.
- talk to people about getting authority over the studentorg namespace
- backlog of rt tickets, maybe find a second technical opstaff
- want more than one ethernet port in the server room, ideally 10 gig
- last time they gave us a price for replacing the switch
- other port in the server room is a telephone cable
- planning to have backups here and at Earl Warren, ideally have another data center
- only other data center can think of is the soda datacenter, which they probably wont let us use
- networking confusing in Earl Warren data center
- some issues with firewalling
- likely not on our end
- want to request a private address space, for things like IPMI
- frees up /24 for other things
- on the spreadsheet, decal vms are said to be on a /24, but they are only on ipv6, so we have a free block
- provide more public services to campus?
- voted on the whiteboard
- hot water??
- michaelzls: if we do this, we need to update closing policies for cleaning
- less harsh overhead lighting
- more places to sit
- couch?
- will be annoying to clean
- very mixed opinions on the green couches
- nicer chairs (current green couches aren't the best)
- beanbag?
- joiew: someone will break it
- michaelzls: replace the white wobbly tables
- clean storage room
- door needs to be fixed; issue with accessibility
- need to talk to SUFMO
- rsang/blakeh: SUFMO wants us to take down blinds as well
- currently very badly attached, via combination of epoxy and tape
- they said they would give us shades, but buerocracy
- SUFMO might have even put up the blinds
- we are not allowed to alter the room; violates SUFMO policy
- SLA with SUFMO
- rsang: ASUC wants us to talk to chartered program organization / ASUC senate, will put a day for it
- talk about it next BoD
operations¶
- blakeh:
- printing good now yay :)
- updated printing processing to go locally on computers
- processing issues solved
- nixpkgs changes were made, will use to further modify clientside printing
- not autoclearing configs
- overall, new system works well
- redesigning, new features coming
- hopefully more realiable
- new staplers not working
- many people very confused, they don't look like staples
- many signs put up to explain stapler conundrum
- still frequent jams, but unjamming process is quick enough
- overall improvement
- most issues are user error
- out of paperclips
- out of paperclips
- some features for stapling in the printer? will look into, maybe not actually useful
- even more printing, going through paper much quicker
- shipment came today
- first opstaff meeting monday
- desk organized?? more likely than you think
- michaelzls: want to make opstaff closing procedure more formal and actually implemented
- especially stuff not plugged in, could be easily fixed by putting that in a closing procedure
- will have a script that checks every computer for peripherals
- blakeh: haven't seen peripheral issues very often, just people shutting down computers
- michaelzls: seen twice this week
- rsang: cable locks
- blakeh: start with closing procedure: look around to see if anything is off, put chairs back
- be more aggressive on telling people to leave to have time to do closing procedure
- sbwilliams: have a grace period where no one can come in, but can still stay inside until closing
- probably better to do do at morning shift; issues with decal, socials, GMs
- need to formalize procedure
internal¶
- joiew:
- hackday this saturday?
- 2 PM onwards
- bart anime convention is on the same day
- snacks!!!
- GM: less informal? we might end slides by now
- buy pizza
- rschuetz: given climate issues, we should not buy meat
- no vegan options! bad
- people can buy their own meat!!
- joiew: will be more mindful of dietary options; halal, vegan, allergies, etc.
- lukepeters: asuc has policy for this, should probably consider as a guideline
- rsang: projects?
- sbwilliams: there are things to do, but they need a lot of context
- it's good for people to fail because they learn how the ocf works
- tech talk?
- yes
- socials
- on fridays before hack day, we can have informal social
- ericgu: minecraft lan party, slideshow night

- CACSSF disbursed today
- opstaff can now be paid
- extra 6k that is not accounted for
- vqbc: should have more detailed accounting for specific expenses
- not in a saving money sense, but to show ASUC how much money we actually need and where it's going
- will show them that there is a reason for the change in amount of money we spend annually
- good explanation for why we aren't using our entire allocation
- having a detalied list shows them that we need more funding for specific reasons
- can use to show that we have to use misc
- michaelzls:
- lot of stuff from last semester have not been bought yet, will buy this sem
- rack rails, power supplies, colour calibrator, vacuum
- mice
- rsang: disagree with buying new mice, can just clean them

rebuild¶
- sbwilliams:
- github.com/ocf/ocf is a repo that just has a lot of issues. this allows for issues that span multiple repos
- nice to have a centralised place
- don't need to use BoD time as much, can communicate on there
